Honeybell Tangelos from Cee Bee's Citrus Florida

Honeybells Tangelos are no longer available this season. Please check back in January of 2013 for next year's crop.

Honeybell Tangelos, also known as Mineolas, are a Florida citrus classic! As you've likely already guessed, the term "Tangelo" is a portmanteau of the words "Tangerine" and "Pomelo," a south-east Asian fruit resembling a very large grapefruit. Of course, Florida honeybell tangelos are not actually hybrids of tangerines and pomelos, but rather tangerines and grapefruit. Their unique combination of tang an sweet make them a favorite among citrus lovers nationwide. We know that there are many Honeybell purveyors on the web, and wanted to let you know what makes us different.

Why buy Honeybell Tangelos from Cee Bee's Citrus?

1. All our fruit is picked and paced to order, so you receive it a few days off the trees.

2. Our mature trees, cradled in a unique environment and surrounded by lakes, offer unsurpassed quality.

3. Cee Bee's citrus is a family-owned grove with three generations working the land. (Not a large corporation hiding behind a family name like some of our competitors).

Wanna know more about honeybells?

Because they are a mix of two fruits, one larger than an orange, and one smaller, tangelos are actually very similar in size to an orange. Moreover, their coloring is a hybrid of two tints, one darker than an orange and one lighter, that results in a seemingly orange hue. It is for this reason that tangelos are commonly mistaken for oranges.

Tangelos, or "honeybell oranges" are a real treat. Though they may look like oranges with a distinct point at one end (giving the fruit its distinctive "bell" shape), honeybell oranges or "honeybell tangelos" as they are sometimes called, have a flavor all their own. Starting with a classic orange sweetness, the essence of honeybell tangelos evolves into something much more tart, reminiscent of a grapefruit.

These characteristics make honeybell tangelos perfect for a number of preparations. First off, honeybell oranges are a fantastic snack fruit and of course, this means they produce a tasty juice as well. But what you may not have considered honeybell tangelos for is cooking. Their unique balance between sweet and tart makes honeybell oranges the perfect "go-between" in many recipes including those where sweeter or more sour fruits are commonly used.
